Here it is Friday the first day of the Target + Mervyns's Beach Bash in Hermosa Beach California. We got there at 9am sharp so that we could take in the media festivities. Don Bostick the president of World Cup Skateboarding took the mic for his portion of the presentation. |

Don explained to the media people that were assembled what they could expect to see over the next 3 days at the Soul Bowl. He introduced Ollie Allen Gelfand the inventor of the "ollie" and Lyn-Z Adams who is one of the youngest female rippers on the scene today. |

After the media conference everyone headed to the bowl to kick off practice. The practice got off to a pretty slow start as everyone got the blood flowing yet it did not take long for the action to heat up. 47 year old Don Hamilton celebrates 40 years of active skateboarding with this weekends event was joined by Ollie Allen Gelfand for some warm up runs as they get some lines dialed in. |

The shout out of the practice session goes out to Lyn-Z. We have been watching Lyn-Z skate for a few years now when we would see her all the time at the Encinitas YMCA skatepark. Her skating has really busted out and she is seen skating everywhere. Today we saw plenty of sic frontside airs as well as all around bowl skating. In Saturday's ladies division she will surely be a threat for the field. |

About an hour in, more and more guys kept showing up to practice. At one point we had a full on nutty jam going with 3 to 4 people in the bowl. At the height of the session there must have been at least 20 skaters all over the bowl taking runs. Jake Piasecki was going off like he was skating someone's pool and Duane Peters was tearing it up all over and sketched out a bunch of times with his feet somehow staying on the board. |
