Ó Skate Scene Media

.

Here we are back for Saturday's edition of the Target + Mervyns's Beach Bash in Hermosa Beach California. We got there really early so that we could get a parking spot that was not miles away and when we got there World Cup Skateboarding action was already underway.

Young guns, ladies bowl competitors, masters and grand masters were all taking in the early morning practice. Right next to the bowl was a street course area that they were letting anyone session, nothing rad yet a fun course.

As we walked around the event we cruised into the Sony Playstation booth. Inside there were plenty of Playstations set up to demo. On the couch we found Eric Nash chilling watching Wayne's World. Eric has been responsible for providing Concrete Disciples with some sic footage you can view at the Concrete Disciples website.  Check it out here

At noon we had the Young Guns bowl qualifying with the contest to follow. With Dave Duncan calling the action in the bowl wheels were now turning for qualifying. All the skaters went out for their called runs then followed by a 30 minute jam. Omar Hassan was throwing down hard with Brian Patch showing off plenty of smooth 540's.

Bowl Action

Hold on!

After the contest was the best trick contest. Jake brown hung out a rodeo 540 that was quite the crowd pleaser.

Omar was ruled the winner on the Young Guns collecting a paycheck of $3000.00. Jake Brown took home $500.00 for the best trick contest.

The ladies Soul Bowl did not go off till 5pm as the air started to chill in the overcast skies. All the ladies killed it for the jam format. Toward the end of the jam Jessica Starkweather went for a frontside roll in and did not land it. She then went for it a second time and got hagged bad on the landing drawing some blood - she was ok though. Jessica is way Punk for going for it - congrats to her, she is one tough chick.
13 year old ripper, Lyn-Z Adams was the winner of the jam. Her back to back airs and overall smooth style woo'd the judges. Watch out for her to continue to shredd in just about every contest she enters.

After the comp was over we headed up the street to see the premier of pool skating flick, Chlorine. This is a video you will certainly want for your collection - it is the sic'st film on the pool skating culture. The evening was closed out with Dave Reul's band, The Skatanic Rednecks performing.

The Rednecks put a down a good set to celebrate the release of Chlorine. Wee Man was there fresh off his appearance on "Taildater" to heckle Dave during the show and enjoy the party scene there. Come back and join us tomorrow as we bring you coverage of The Masters and Grand Masters.
