.

Back in December 2003 the night after seeing The Weirdos play in Hollywood we went on a minor road trip to check out the new Palm Springs park and we really liked what we saw. Now it was January and the official grand opening day was here even though they had a soft opening a few weeks back.

Mike Hirsch from SoCalSkateparks.com was put in charge of organizing the talent that would rage the demos for the opening. He slotted the groms who represent Punk Rock Skateboards to skate the opening as well as arranged for us to be put up at a pretty good hotel the night before despite the hotel's pool being full of water.

The Milkman

We got over to the park at 9:30am to hang out and warm up for the 12 noon kickoff. Not sure what was up with The Milkman today, yet he was throwing down a little harder than he usually does and at times was busting airs just a little over the coping. Maybe he was still amped from his 9th birthday party the week before.....who knows, yet he was taking care of business.

Chris Graham

Chris Graham of course was seeing how high he could get his new Exploited deck to fly on a few test runs....mmmm not bad. Jake Piasecki who rides for Sector 9 is a dude we have been rolling with lately. Anytime Jake shows up he is gonna put on a show and is certainly a good example for the kids to follow.

Our music partners from Finger Records came out as well for the event to support us and full on skateboarding. Label Manager, Jaymes "Mayhem" Martinez was working booth and giving away tons of free stuff as well as conducting a drawing for some goods later in the day. At the booth kids were able to sample plenty of music of some of the latest Finger Records releases. Thanks Jaymes for the support!

Thanks PS

It was now high noon and the mayor of Palm Springs, Ronald Oden was doing the dedication. He was very proud that they had built a park that was rated a top 10 park in So Cal and that their efforts we very appreciated by the skate community. Once that was over the shredding began with the invited skaters taking over the place..

During the entire event a local radio station was out at the park to keep the music going and to conduct the raffle of the items from PRS that included a complete skateboard as well as items from Kronk Skateboards, and others that had been given to the event.

There was free food and drinks for the 1000 plus people that showed up at various points in the afternoon. Now that Brian Patch was checked in he proceeded to the bowl to tear the thing up with such speed and precision.

Once the demos were over at 3pm they opened it up for everyone to skate for free for the rest of the day. All the kids there could not get their gear on fast enough to get rolling this premium park.

Dave Cardoza

With the demos now over, Jaymes at Finger Records decided to conduct their raffles for some skate decks with the bands on their label as well as CD packs and shirts. It seemed like ever kid walked with something, Finger was raffling off everything short of the van they came in. Dave Cardoza who ride for Kronk was killing the street area -thanks for the show!

Finger Madness

Seriously fun day for everyone involved and we got to make a whole lot more friends ..... hell isn't that what skateboarding is all about?
