Your sitting around looking at that magazines thinking, “Gawd, if I could only land that trick”. We were recently invited out to the NEW, Point X Camp here in southern California – we call the place “Camp Sic”, and you will see why we call it that. You take the 15 freeway to Temecula and head east on the 79 highway. This two lane road takes you way back to the camp tucked away in the outskirts of Temecula.
We had a pretty good crew on hand to join us on the tour of the camp. This place is equipped with a state of the art facility and staffed by people who’s goal will be to make you a shredder by the end of your stay. The camp is set up so that you stay on the property for an entire week and focus on your skating and what it takes to step it up. We were greeted at the front office by Brian Harper, who is a judge on the World Cup Skateboarding circuit and is the camp director for Point X.

He took our group on a tour of the camp that spans many acres and will feature 75,000 square feet of skating surface. We were first taken to the main junction of the camp where you have a General Store that will contain all the incidentals a camper may need during their stay. There just is no way anyone will feel that they do not have all the creature comforts of home during their stay at Point X - they have it all. They also have a full on Pro shop so that you can get any skate related items during your visit.

On the right were the newly constructed cabins that will each accommodate a group of campers and an assigned counselor. The cabins are not big enough to throw a party in, yet they will provide a comfortable place to sleep. After a full day of skating at this place, sleeping is what you will be most interested in doing in the cabin. Well…maybe you won’t be able to sleep because you will be so jazzed that you finally worked the bugs out of a trick that you have been trying to land for a year.

The camp also has a swimming pool, but it was full of water? I guess that will be just for swimming and not skating…huhh. There is also a full time nurse that stays on the property just in case they are needed. Since everyone attending camp will be going for it, it’s good to know that there will be someone there dedicated to helping you out.

Brian Harper continued to point out many things about the camp. For one the fresh water lake that is fully controlled by the camp. They have paddle boats to relax in and some rope swings that you can dive in to the lake with. Below is the view of the lake from the cabins. At the base of the trees you see across the lake is a killer wood bowl and a rhythm/street/quarter ramp section.

For the rest of the tour we needed to take the truck loaded with all our skate gear to get around the large facility. Everything we saw was being worked on around the clock by the Point X crew. We first went by this ramp that was designed for BMX that had a steep roll in that went over 2 insane flat boxes. Brian noted that it could also be used by skateboarders too. I can see Brian Patch or Jake Brown just flying over these things.

Keep in mind that there is more to the Point X facility than the photos we have here. Our goal here is to give you an idea of this massive skate camp. There is a full 12 foot half pipe that will have real pool coping on the extension. This ramp should turn out the next generation of vert rippers.

Across from that is a street course like no other you have seen. Lots of interesting lines and obstacles to learn new stuff on.
The facility extends up the road to a whole other skatepark area. This area has a bunch of stuff to hone the skills of skaters of all levels. The first thing Brain pointed out was a ramp that has 6 levels to get skaters comfortable with dropping in with the opposite side being a bank so you don't have to bail out when you hit the other side. This is the kind of stuff that the Point X crew has thought up. They really want kids to leave with allot of tangible skills.

A mini ramp that has one side as a half bowl on it was very interesting and should provide some unlimited fun. What would a camp like this be without a foam pit. They have done something interesting with this foam pit though. They put a ledge at the edge of the foam pit so that you can know that you would have landed the trick with a bit of a safety net in place.

Just a huge place!

Rhythm section

The spine
From here we went across the lake to the bowl that also has a rhythm/street/quarter ramp section next to it (photo is from the construction phase). The rhythm/street/quarter ramp section will also be a great place to learn some new stuff. There are launch boxes, a spine to learn all the spine transfer tricks on, and each end has quarter ramps to turn on so that you can get a good combo run in. We came back to take some photos at night of the bowl.

The bowl speaks for itself - it is bitchen. There are many lines and the possibilities are endless. We are giving you many angles of this bowl so that you can get a real feel for what you are in for when you book your stay at Point X.
