We were just out in Vegas the week before for The Adolescents show and here we are back again. This time was for a skate contest and not a Punk show. The Wagon Wheel pool is a private permission pool and this was the first skate contest held there.

In spite of the temperature over 105° the contest attracted a strong group of competitors and spectators alike. The contest started with the AMs taking to the pool at 1pm after a morning of practice. Event organizers put tarps over the pool which made it feel a little cooler if you were under one -that was a good call.

The contest consisted of a 1 hour jam format which was not a full on snake session, but at times did see two skaters in the bowl mostly due to not looking to see if someone else had already dropped in.

The thing about the vibe of this contest was that no one seemed to concerned that this was a contest. Everyone participating was just going about business as if it was just another session with their friends. About half way though the jam the top three skaters seemed to be determined and from there it was just a matter of where the judges would rank them.

Next up was the pro division. The party just continued on with even more people showing up to watch the second half. The format was the same as the AMs, a full one hour jam. Hmmm, sitting here reviewing the notes of this portion of the contest and wondering, well do we continue to make commentary about how sic the skating and all the ohhs and awes from the crowd were, or just let the photos speak for them self. Shine it, look at the photos, plus the temperature was so hot that our camera was starting to malfunction.

The best trick contest after the pro division was open to everyone. One stand out trick attempt was from Chris Farrell who was trying to nail a blunt tail slide for about 5 to 6 blocks worth and could not get it done...it would have been rad if he did. Then Jimmy "The Greek" goes for a frontside stall on a saw horse and lands it after a few tries and the crowd cheered wildly.

Thanks need to go out to Vegas local Joe for putting us up at his house and all the hospitality. The event was a huge success in large part to the many volunteers who helped organize the event and the full time coordination from Manimal. Shout out needs to be thrown out to Kirk the owner of the pool. Kirk owns a company titled Wagon Wheel Inc -yea coincidence we know, that sells shirts with some pretty out there phrases on them that are perfect for a party of casual grocery shopping.
